Killian Brady

One thing Killian claims that he possesses no memory of is his childhood. Though it is a lie and he remembers it in gratuitous amounts, he has essentially blocked most of it out. He was born in Singapore and shortly thereafter his parents and older sister immigrated to live in Xiamen due to business demands. There they lived until he was six years old. In November of 1990, his parents had to take a business trip to Guangzhou and the flight they took ended up being hijacked by a man seeking political asylum. Killian was left at home with a friend of the family while they were away, as they intended to be gone for only two to three days and he had fallen ill with a light chest cold. Though there were efforts to regain control of the plane, it ended up crashing into two other planes in its landing. Of the casualties were Killian's parents, and he had to witness it on the television himself. His sister had gone along with them and survived, though she was placed into a foster home immediately after being released from the hospital due to her temporary memory loss from the injuries she incurred.

At first, he expressed no outward reaction to it. A sort of numbing calm took the young boy and the family friends had no idea what to do with him. Close as they were to his parents, they had every intention to try and take care of him, but when faced with that news - Killian couldn't take it. So, one night he snuck out of the house with nothing but the clothes on his back, a teddy bear given to him by his mother, and all the currency he had saved. He was able to get all the way back to his own home to fetch some other things he wanted to keep, which mostly consisted of a picture of himself with his parents and some clothes.

Conscious of the fact that they would think to look for him there, Killian left quickly. He lived off the streets for a time before being found by a caring foreigner. He managed to coax him into his good graces, gaining Killian's trust and was taken in by the man and given an Irish name since he refused to speak his own Chinese one -- Killian Brady. He was moved to Dublin, Ireland where he spent the rest of his years in an orphanage with other children. For the momst part, he didn't get along with the majority of them what with his being so different. He never talked to the others and spent most of his time holed up in his room solving complex puzzles.

As in all things, there came a select few that snuck onto his good side and he valued them more than he could say. They helped instill some ambition in him and actually drew out his desire to become an investigator. Though he could never do anything to bring to justice his parents' death as that fate was already sealed, he could go on with the hope that he could for others in the future. So, he put his intelligence to good use and started working for the NBCI. With his potential alone, he quickly rose in the ranks, but when he found a position he liked - he denied any other attempts of promotion.

When the outbreak came, Killian was away from the orphanage where he continued to live despite his age. He was working on an intensive case, and when he finally left for the day he was struck with the sight of it burning to the ground. Withdrawing into himself once more, he retreated back to the office that was now effectively overrun with zombies and the undead. He had nowhere to hide and so he stayed on the move. Bouncing from place to place, he eventually found an abandoned apartment building that he remained at until Dublin was saved.

In hiding he remained, though he has not been idle. He opted to work for the Revival Project as an investigator despite his severe trust issues with them. With the recent addition of various cities, Killian has moved around quite a bit in secret. His latest assignment has placed him in Singapore City, Singapore and he has decided that it has been long enough and that he will make himself known.

All praise for his intelligence aside, Killian is an unusual young man. Mostly brought on from his syndrome, he's a little delayed in some social aspects of his personality. He is incredibly soft spoken and has never been known to raise his voice. He refuses to use his voice if he can help it, which was a habit hard to break of him when he was younger. Though some felt his refusal to speak was brought on by a tragic childhood, others feel it was just a touch of autism. He was never forced to speak, rather coaxed to do so and over time he became acclimated with using his voice when necessary; however, when he does speak - he gets straight to the point and won't say anything beyond what he feels is necessary.

Once he became adjusted to talking, he lost any semblance of a shy nature to call his own. As he got older, he went through periods of being a chatterbox to relapsing back to a quiet nature. This of course is what he has settled in being now. He is not unfriendly, but his way with words can often be considered rude and even impractical. There is no one he has ever been able to really consider a friend in the truest sense of the word. Anyone he may be close to died from the infection, but they were only considered family.

Even before the outbreak, Killian possessed a strong sense of justice. Though he lacks ambition to go far in his life, he only does the bare minimum in order to maintain his comfort zone. He was content with his level prior to the outbreak. Since then, however, he has chosen to take his gifts and go further with them and use it to cope with his grief.

Having somewhat of a disadvantage with emotions overall, it's very hard to tell when he's feeling anything at all. He always looks very impassive and distant and very rarely smiles. It takes a pretty momentus occasion to get any kind of reaction from him, though he does occasionally wear a small grin instead. It takes one muscle too many out of his face to do anything more, he'd say all too dryly.

Intuitive Aptitude — The ability to analyze complex systems and intuitively understand how they work without special education or training. For systems that he already understands, he can detect and identify flaws in the mechanism with only a cursory inspection. Systems that he has never seen before may require more extensive study, but he is nonetheless able to analyze them far more quickly than any ordinary person could, and he requires far less technological equipment. This ability is inclusive to both mechanical and biological systems. In understanding these things, he is then capable of fixing them. In the case of powers, he is also able to replicate them himself if he is able to "see" how they work (which would mean he would have to see into your brain).

clairsentience — Latent — He can perceive the history of an object by touching it. He can see them as though he was there himself witnessing the event unfold. He has fine-tuned this ability to be able to willingly pull the history from it rather than it just naturally occurring.

empathy — Latent — By directly facing someone and helping them through their emotions, Killian can gain a superior level of awareness about them. In this way, he can understand their abilities as well without having to see their actual brain for how it works. In a sense, he's intuitively comprehending their emotional reaction to the body's different state of being.

Technopathy — The ability to control and manipulate electronics with the mind. This ability functions with or without contact with electronics. He can even access the technology of broken items just as well as working ones (though if they're broken, he could simply fix them with his intuitive aptitude comprehension). He could easily describe this power as "talking to machines". He can identify even the slightest signals in technology and uses electronics around him for tracking purposes. It has advanced to being able to go as far as to contact and use satellites as a means of connecting to the internet, and could also serve other (obvious) purposes.

Electrical Discharge — He possesses the ability to generate and discharge electricity through conductive media (i.e. he cannot discharge it through air or concrete), at sufficiently high amounts to kill grown men or short out a building's electrical systems.

molecular reconstruction — He can use the electricity he can generate to speed up his molecules to reconstruct major injuries.

electricity manipulation — The ability to manipulate the existing electricity within an object. He could hotwire a car directly with a single touch of his bare hands to the wire, manipulate the electricity in a building to make the lights flicker or short out entirely with a bang, and even use it to short out security systems silently. The latter coupled with his technopathy leaves him capable of leaving no trace of himself behind.

Blood relatives unknown, likely deceased. He does have an older sister by three years that was on the plane with his parents and survived. He knows who she is, where she is, and what she's doing, but she believes he's dead by now.

fellow orphans

Crow — Not a friend, but family in a sense. Anyone who grew up with him in the orphanage was deemed as much despite not being related by blood or even being close to half of the others. He secretly does not mind his presence at all, and takes particularly great pleasure in beating him at Chinese Checkers. He also keeps score despite trumping him every time. Sometimes he calls him Wu Ya, which is Chinese for a black bird like a crow or raven.

fellow project workers

Aidan Gallagher — He vehemently dislikes him.
Akemi Shimizu — Killian actually knew him prior to the outbreak. They met in Dublin and had an entirely random game of Chinese checkers. A game of which Killian won, and never forgot the funny look on Akemi's face afterward.
Arden Lin — Otherwise known as Viper, she is a fellow operative. He becomes very bashful and shy around her (understandably), and so he says very little beyond what is necessary.
Bianca Falaguerra — She's kind of scary.
Carlisle Toome — A Force Group member out of Dublin that he met prior to being relocated all over the world. He was a nice enough guy that it didn't take much for Killian to warm up to him.
Elise Caravelle — Not an operative he knows well, but he knows her nonetheless. She doesn't treat him strangely, so when he does have to communicate her - he appreciates that.

friendships

Faith Tanggard — He met her while he was at the orphanage. She was lost and he helped her find her way. Though he was distant at first, her prolonged presence and overall disquieted but kind nature led him to be nicer to her.

acquaintances

Evelyn Wang — She is an interesting woman. He is not sure what to make of her and perhaps that's why he keeps talking to her now. He is not used to having people apologize to him.
Odette von Mayer — She tried to get personal with him, and he really wouldn't have it. He doesn't want to have friends anymore than what he already has for their sake.
Patrick Nohara — Killian feels bad for him after what happened to Vancouver. So, he paid him a visit. He is peculiar, but Killian doesn't mind him at all.

• The languages listed are the languages he spoke before the outbreak. Now with his abilities, he can innately understand any language and/or have it translated through technological means.
• KB suffers from an autism spectrum disorder. Though he has improved with treatment and a gratuitous amount socializing, he still retains several of these symptoms:

- poor posture

- failure to make eye contact

- displays repetitive/restricted behaviors

• His Chinese name he presently goes by of Ju Lie means acute or fierce, as Killian is its Irish equivalent in meaning. Operatives for the Project know him by this and KB.
• While KB does in fact have an Irish accent, he also can drop it and do other accents as well.
• Goes barefoot as much as possible.
• Has very bad posture, and always walks with his hands in his pockets.
• Claims he's not coordinated at all, so he plays no sports to speak of nor does he enjoy watching them with the exception of Rugby.
• He is in actuality very agile and is a Hapkido fourth degree black belt.
• Prefers to wear form-fitting t-shirts and jeans.
• Plays classical music to concentrate on his tasks.
• Really likes to play board games, especially Chinese Checkers. He also likes sudoku.
• Possesses genius level intelligence and very low aspirations.
• He gets sick very easily with chest colds and has occasionally suffered asthma attacks (though that is rare). Ritualistically takes vitamins.
• Lines up his medication and counts each pill before taking them each one-by-one with one sip of water.
• Will not drink anything but water that has been purified. Yes, he can tell the difference.
• The opposite of a packrat. He has only one prized possession and that is a tattered and worn teddy bear he named Tam.
• Can go awhile without blinking, and it's a good indicator when he doesn't at all that he's either asleep or simply thinking.
• Insomniac.
• Will say he does not remember his actual given Chinese name, but he does.
• At work, he does not use a chair for his desk. He removes his shoes and sits atop the desk much to the chagrin of his superiors.
• He eats.. a lot. A lot. Mostly noodles.
• Still employed with the NBCI. It's his cover.
• Tends to fluster easily around girls. He kind of gawks at pretty faces.
• Was given a guitar for his birthday from Crow.
