background information

history

Most people can claim their childhood was normal; Siobhan is one of those people. Born an only child, Siobhan popped out one winter day to be raised in the glamorous city of Denver, and lived quite happily with her middle-class family. Her favorite thing to do was play football in the yard with her father, and despite her being quite a pretty girl, her family never coddled her tomboyish tendencies. It didn't bother them that she preferred to run with the neighbor-boy Shane Walker (who would grow to be her best friend), nor eschewed all dresses in favor of overalls. She was happy, and that was what mattered.

Around the time Siobhan gained the ability to think and her follower tendencies ended, Siobhan's family made the decision to adopt a child. Having reached the apex of immaturity (around ten or so), Siobhan neatly threw a fit and stayed in her room for days, rather than frolicking in the sun and meeting the interesting people her father tried to garner votes from. Her family tried to coax her out with food and promises of games, but Siobhan only came out on her own accord, nearly two weeks after her new brother had arrived.

However, she emerged different: what had been a cheerful child was now despondent and angry. Siobhan took to yelling, screaming, hitting, and proving as unpleasant as she could possibly be. Her family took it in stride, chalking it up to Siobhan's age, but they quickly reached the end of their line, especially after tolerating it for more than a month.

Miranda marched into Siobhan's room, deciding enough was enough, and bestowed upon her a pair of boxing gloves. "Don't be a brat," she said, "and take your anger elsewhere." And, there installed in their garage was a brand-new punching bag. Siobhan took to it immediately, and quickly reverted to her old self--but with a new-found interest in boxing.

Though primarily male-dominated, Siobhan took to it like a fish to water. She competed in amateur matches throughout high school until finally reaching university. Unfortunately, no scholarships were offered on her sport of choice, but Siobhan attended a close-by college with a major in math (something she regrets because it is something she has no talent in). Once graduated, Siobhan ditched any normal occupation, announced her intention to become a professional boxer, and booked it outside of the state her father had been governor of (now he had proved himself to be competent enough for secretary of education), all the way to Italy.

She lived by herself, not taking the time to get to know anyone but her trainer. She joined a boxing club dominated by men and struggled to prove herself substantial or even worth paying attention to. However, Siobhan had developed a voracious appetite over the years, and as a result, often struggling to meet her weight requirements before her matches (an emotional eater, as all girls are, and she dealt with stress that way).

Siobhan's career was severely disrupted by the outbreak; the next month was spent in a blur, trying to find out if her family had managed to survive--after all, nobody had announced that their lovely American city was safe. But the Redfields were one of the lucky families; all managed to survive and quickly relocated to the safer cities. While Franklin and Miranda moved to Rome, Italy, in order to keep an eye on Siobhan (she had always been so volatile, it was hard to keep track of her), the family had long lost track of Shawn years before, who had left on some type of sabbatical and where conversation between the family members had gradually ceased.

Life, though still strange, settled in an odd way with Siobhan, between competitions, finding time to visit her family. Some semblance of regularity was created, and though Siobhan is highly volatile herself, the routine is welcome in a world where nothing is quite guaranteed anymore.

personality

Siobhan has boredom issues. She hates sitting still, and she is almost always constantly in motion, preferably in the form of a sport. She has never understood the allure of a book or a video game; why do something like that when the sun is outside shining? Even rain won't deter her; she'll just stomp around in it, kicking up water from puddles and having fun by herself, if it so happens. If something exciting is going on, you can trust Siobhan to be in the thick of it.

Siobhan puts her all into everything she does. Her mind is completely, 100% one-track, and she has trouble focusing on more than one thing at a time. While her devotion can be admirable, the problem is that Siobhan ends up forgetting about other important things in her life, putting them on the backburner until her current goal is reached. Not only that, but she is eager to try new things and earnest to the point of naive; to Siobhan, everything is possible until she first-hand sees it otherwise. She believes in strength and perseverance over natural aptitude, and it's safe to assume that while not the brightest crayon in the box intellectually, Siobhan more than makes up for it with her upbeat attitude.

While it is true once the goal is accepted Siobhan will do anything to achieve it, it takes a lot of convincing to get her to agree. She's overindulgent with herself at times, especially with food, and this translates into trouble when it comes to her occupation. Her lack of foresight explains why, maybe, her attitude is necessary; if it weren't for her "winner takes all and I must win" feelings, then it would be nearly impossible for her to buckle down as she does and practice.

Siobhan also can have trouble learning when to calm down and stop joking around. When scolded, Siobhan becomes overly apologetic and disgruntled, prone to withdrawing to herself for a few hours before emerging slightly-deflated. However, this is very temporary, and Siobhan usually ends up in her usually energetic mode soon after. Very little can get her down permanently; she tends to deal with deeper emotions with her binge-eating, anyways. People can always trust her to rebound quickly from any sort of depression, so most people don't worry about her.

powers

electrokinesis — Siobhan has the ability to mentally manipulate electricity currents and generate static electricity. She can summon lightning, and even convert her body into a mass of electrons, giving her the additional ability to travel through outlets.

pyrokinesis — Siobhan also can mentally generate and manipulate fire. She can work with existing fires or generate them on her own. Any fire, generated by herself or not, does not effect her, enabling Siobhan to pick up fire in the palms of her hands and throw a punch. However, extended exposure wears down her defense, and sometimes she can burn herself if she's not careful.

relationships

family

Gray Redfield — A rising politician who always seems to make time for his family, no matter what. Siobhan is a completely, 100% Daddy's Girl, and she doesn't mind. He always treated her more like a son than a daughter, except for those rare times she was forced into formal wear and he was suddenly reminded. Instantly distrustful of any guys around her, minus Shawn and Shane.
Miranda Redfield — Miranda was the one who got Siobhan into boxing. While some mothers might be unhappy that Siobhan wasn't the most girly girl around, she never saw a problem with it. She might have encouraged it, even.
Shawn — Her adoptive brother. Although Siobhan was originally less than thrilled about his appearance into her family, she grew to love him just as she would any family member. They've resumed contact, but he's incredibly evasive about where he is and at the prospect of visiting.

friends

Timothy Murphy — Siobhan's trainer since forever, it seems. He's followed her from Denver all the way to Italy, and he lives relatively close to where she does. Tim may be exasperated with Siobhan at times, but for the most part, he's much like a second father to her and they bicker just as if she were his actual daughter. He is divorced and has a family, but hasn't mentioned them to Siobhan.
Norah — After meeting on the network, it was obvious that the two girls were going to get along. They have similar interests and personalities, and Siobhan makes a point to make conversation with her when she can. They even got to travel the world together, which is a feat in itself. Siobhan relates with Norah more than she does with other girls, perhaps due to Norah's tomboyish tendencies too.
Merielle — A friend of a friend, and now her friend too. Merielle's perky attitude keeps Siobhan upbeat, and since they have similarities between them, they manage to get along well.
Michael — The kid dropped a coke on her at the charity games. Siobhan wasn't too mad about it because he seemed sorry, and they even got to talking and watching an entire event together. He's a really good guy, so far.
Knight — They were on the same soccer team for the charity games. Knight was nice enough to share his cotton candy with her, forever endearing himself to her. Siobhan thinks he's pretty cool.
Natalie — Natalie's actually been to a few of Siobhan's matches. That's how they met! Siobhan can always appreciate another female who is into physical activities just like she is (no, not that kind!).
Odette — Met her at a match. Odette is very pretty and delicate-looking, not the type of girl she figured to be interested in this sort of thing. Lately Odette and Siobhan have been hanging out, mostly because Siobhan has taken it upon herself to make Odette as normal as she can.
Regina — Another person that was on Siobhan's soccer team in the charity game! She's a really friendly woman, and her and Siobhan got along well.
Shane — Her best friend since middle school. Unlike other boys, Shane never made her feel like she needed to become more feminine; he always just took her as is. Because of this, she loves him wholly with all her heart, and she would probably kick the ass of anyone who ever hurt him. Finding him on the community was something of a godsend for her, and she's happy to have her brother-from-another-mother back. NPC.
Sun-Hi — Sun-Hi attended one of Siobhan's boxing matches because of her father's business. On a whim, she invited the victor out to dinner. Siobhan finds Sun-Hi really interesting and clever, and her upfront attitude is refreshing.

others

Sasha Murphy — A fellow American who managed to find herself in Italy. The two found each other through Siobhan's trainer, who is Sasha's uncle. Sasha is significantly more feminine and catty than Siobhan, but her upfront nature and ability to be game for anything means they get along for the most part. She works teaching English.
Christine — Met her in New York. She's a talented ballerina, and her grace is definitely something Siobhan envies. Recently got to hang out with her again, and she had a good time!
Gaku — Participated in the women's division of some of the tournaments he was in. Kind of struck up a friendship then but she hasn't seen him since he ate it at the national competition.
James — A really nice guy she met on the community who offered to help teach her some Italian. They chatted about food (Siobhan's favorite subject) and weather, and she would love to talk to him more.
Lilith — The third person she met in New York. Siobhan has no education nor interest in music beyond casual listening, but she thinks Lilith looks like she'd be good at what she does.
Kasumi — One of her teammates from the charity games! ... Rice caaaaaaaaaakes. ♥ She was really nice and a friendly woman!
