History

Taiwanese father and American mother. Not exactly a poster for a common couple. Different as day and night and yet passionate for the same subjects. It was a matter of time before they came together and found a place to live, away from their own countries of origin. Hawaii was the chosen location by common agreement, the reasons underlie it much different than the ones currently driving anyone towards the site.

Of his childhood, little could be said besides one word. Normal. He was a normal child, one who enjoying playing and joking around as well as the one beside him. Very easy to get along with, extremely open with the way he acted around people, Yang was just a…well, normal and regular kid. It was when he reached his teens that his parents noticed the strange tendency for him to close himself at random intervals. Maybe they should have expected that. As researchers, biologists whose time was mostly spent by the sea and not for recreational purposes, it wasn't like their own habits were any different.

Instead of trying to change them, both accepted it quite readily. Yang found himself being brought back and forth of their expeditions to the high sea, gaining a distinct appreciation for the different tasks which were taught to him. His path was quite defined from there on.

Applying himself in school was easy enough and expected. While the opportunity to skip years was presented, he had no wish to grow far too quickly and simply lived his teen years at his own pace. The only thing truly of notice during his school years, more specifically, his high school years was his meeting with Kalia Song. Main opinion around him was that she wasn't worth coming near of but, as in many other things, he had to try it out before taking his own opinion. Her temper and harsh personality tended to slid right by him. Specially since he, many times, tended to get too focussed on other things to bother with sharp words. She became a constant in his life. Somehow. A truly good friend and someone he felt comfortable with.

He finished schooling, entered college and eventually became a researcher like his parents before him, though not in the exact same area. With them, he started working actively on the field. It was also during this time that he started living with Kalia. A relatively peaceful way of living and he was quite content with it. Everything changed once the pulse hit. His parents, infected like so many others, didn't resist for long to the onslaught. Their child escaped the fate by pure luck, allowing him to flee before it was too late. His first thought when running from the house which had once been his home was to find his girlfriend. It was a fruitless search, one that left him, for the first time, depressed. And even more work obsessed. His main concern became finding the reason for what had taken place, as well as a cure for the disaster.

Left alone, Yang searched for the only family he actually felt comfortable with. His uncle and aunt didn't seem to mind his presence and welcomed him in their home. It's with them and his younger cousin that he's currently living, at least, until he finds a place for himself.

• Recent Events

- 2009, April, 4th, begins posting in the community.

- 2009, April, 11th, the research labs of The College of Engineering in Hawaii are rebuilt and receives his job back.

- 2009, July, 1st, helps to protect Honolulu on the Worldwide Disaster Day.

- 2009, July, 17th, his cousin discovers a perfect way to make him forget his fear of flying. Basically, it involved dropping him through the air several times. During the rest of the month he, Kali and Ming travel to Taiwan and Seoul.

- 2009, August, 24th, helps with the fund raising effort in both his cousin's museum and the college.

- 2010, October, attends Vanness's party in Taipei because Min simply didn't allow a no.

- 2010, January, 31th, loses his powers temporarily thanks to the Power Swap

Personality

If there's someone who's distinctively unable to tell a lie, he would be the one. Honest to an impossible degree, Yang says what should be said and what should be kept secret. He speaks easily and too much, often losing himself when doing something he is really interested about. Pretty much, he's a nerd. He'll speak someone's ears off hours to no end if he's given the permission. With words which often have more than three syllables. Intelligent and quick on the uptake, he speaks not to gloat but merely because he likes teaching, showing to others that there's something else worth learning about. Not that wise when related to his own personal life and some things will often fly right by him.

When the subject's not work related, he tends to let his mind black out every now and then, going in and on out of current thought all too easily. Basically, he just gets distracted and makes sure to jump from one subject to another . Especially if the subject bothers him in some way. A good friend though and someone pleasant to be around, if one doesn't mind being bored half to death when he starts going. Distinctively nice, if a little conservative in many of his day to day habits.

Powers

Alteration of his own genetic make-up to produce a number of super human abilities, each perfectly adapted for his environment and offensive/defensive purposes. The analysis of others' powers and abilities is done thanks to his perception of energy patterns and a rather involuntary perception of others' genetic constitution.

Relationships

Family

• Shido and Laura Nan ;; father and mother, infected in the outbreak. Deceased. They're the ones who shaped his life and mindset. He adored and misses them every day.
• Xing Nan ;; paternal uncle. Respected and cared for. He doesn't really joke around but he has to admit it can be amusing to watch. Not to be the target of.
• Cristiana Nan ;; aunt. He adores her. Truly does. He would starve if it wasn't for her.
• Ming ;; cousin. His best friend. How that works, he doesn't now. But it does.

Love interest

• Kali ;; one of the few people in the world who accepts him as he is, who he's comfortable with. Loves and cares for her deeply, no matter what anyone might think.

Social

• Jacob ;; manages to put up with his traits who knows how. Yang appreciates this and tries to repay it by placing a break on his tendency to go on and on. Good guy even if he seems somewhat harsh.
• Ruxandra and Krista ;; he doesn't think it's possible to see one without the other. They were both extremely professional when dealing with and pleasant to speak with. All in all, he likes what little he was allowed to see.
• Sayuri ;; someone met through Kali and then Mind. He finds her to be a sweet, pleasant girl but also one he won't even try to get on the bad side of. He remembers a certain bruise far too well to do something as foolish.
• Suzume ;; random encounter on the beach and he managed to discover one of the sweetest kids he ever met. Can't see anyone bringing her down. And if they do, it would be bad if he found out.

Random Facts

• He won't touch alcohol. Ever. If you want to know the reason, it's on his right arm.
• Afraid of Dislikes heights. Hence, afraid of dislikes flying.
• He's not a prude. But changing subjects is A+.
• Has been known to leave the house in PJs. Or boxers. His neighbors, apparently, enjoyed this habit.
• Mumbles to himself when he's focused on his work.
• James Watson and Francis Crick are probably his heroes.
• It takes far too much to get on his nerves. Even more to actually alter his temper. If that, for some reason, takes place...it better not take place at all.
• He would forget eating if no one prodded him.
• His fashion sense is horrendous. Yang prefers to allow others to choose clothing for him.
• Adores driving. Very, very fast. Fasten your seatbelts.
• The only two sports he was ever into are running and swimming.
• Star Wars fan. With Yoda, mess you do not.
• Music tastes are strangely random. It goes from classical to rock, with random mentions to pop. The only thing he can't hear is metal.
• Bribe him with coffee. It works.
• Before presenting anything, either to colleagues or even friends and family, Yang's deadly nervous. It's noticeable since he cannot keep still. It fades a few moments after he begins to speak.
• Ming's the one responsible for his good physical form. Actually makes him go through weight training. Otherwise, Yang wouldn't bother.
• His cousin is also responsible for his frail control on his fear of flying. How? Basically, Ming dropped him several times through the air. Eventually, he stopped freezing and started using his wings.
• Yes, he knows how to surf. He spent half of his life on the sea too. Cool? No. Just very, very freeing, or so he believes.
• He doesn't trust larger industries. Africa's quite well stuck in his mind and their policies bother him still.
• Always seen wearing a silver ring on his middle finger, right hand. Another one is constantly wore on his neck, hanging by a black string. First belonged to his father and the second to his mother.
• His mother's ring was given to Kali as a birthday gift.
