background information

history

The story of his parents falling in love seems almost ridiculous in some respects, though the core of the story is 100% cliche. Ji Hwan Choi was the typical bad boy, and Soo Hyun Jeong (incidentally, Hyori Lee's elder sister) was a goody-two-shoes, rule-abiding former class president; it was only by fate, they say, they ended up attending the same university with the same major as education. Through some strange twist of fate that involved blackmail and some other things, Ji Hwan ended up deflowering Soo Hyun and with that, the rest was history. Though lucky enough to fall in love, the two were made to be married right after graduating from university, and within a few monthes, out popped his elder sister, and then a year later, Sun himself.

His parents were relatively normal, tempered by the efforts of love and all that, so Sun experienced a fairly normal childhood. His days consisted of attending school, falling asleep in class, and hanging out with a group of guys whom he called friends. He was always teased for his girly qualities, but Sun always took it in stride, not bothering to care enough and far too astute to correctly guess that the guys who teased him were probably just jealous that girls liked him anyways. It was with this attitude he successfully avoided conflict in his high school career.

Sun's parents were both teachers, his father capitalizing on math while his mother preferred to work with younger children in primary school. They often scolded him because of his could-care-less attitude towards schooling, though he did well enough to place solidly in the top-half of his school. To deal with the pressure from his parents, Sun did all he could to stay away from his parent's house: he picked up a part-time job; when he made enough money, he bought a bass and started taking lessons; when he made enough money again, he started taking all sorts of martial arts classes (becoming skilled at quite a few of them). It wasn't that he disliked his parents (it was far from it), but he had no intention of attending university and couldn't bear to see their faces once they figured it out.

Sun faked going to take a few entrance tests, assuring his parents he would go to university but instead, usually, on a date with whoever had caught his eye that week. His parents remained remarkably clueless, and as the days approached, Sun became increasingly nervous about what to do: after all, he couldn't exactly fake an acceptance letter and consistently attend fake classes.

Sun was lucky in the year 2009, because after just a few monthes of pulling the wool over his parent's eyes, the university he had "been attending" was destroyed by the infected, and Sun was, effectively, an ex-student. Now, free to do anything with his time, Sun is probably one of the few people who were lucky enough to find the outbreak in their favor.

personality

Some people remark that Sun should have, maybe, been born a girl. It might be true in some respects; he is remarkably gentle for a boy, quiet for the most part, and maybe a tad coy in the ways girls are. Rather than take initiative, Sun prefers to be lead around on a leash (preferably a leather one), and let other people make the decisions for him. Even the way he speaks is more proper for a woman, full of soft lilts and caressing tones. Nonetheless, there's a different side to Sun when someone gets to know him well.

When he finally gets comfortable with a person, Sun loosens up a little. Intimacy grants people certain privileges when it comes to his personality. In private, Sun shows himself to be a rather off-the-wall, awkward person. Not necessarily loud or insane, but he definitely has that gift to make just the right sexual remark to make an entire room go quiet. His sense of humour is just that too: making people feel as awkward as possible. When someone shows themself impervious to this, he can't help but like them. Of all the qualities of a person, he admires the ability to be at ease in any situation more than anything.

He is pretty patient for a guy, willing to wait for most things. He has the understanding of a mother (if you make everyone he meets his children), and his sensitivity doesn't help with the feminine image he has going on for him. Even with his womanish characteristics, he still has to deal with a small amount of girls who find his pretty face and pretty personality something akin to catnip. When it comes to rejection, Sun tries to do it as gently as possible, and despite himself, he often gets pretty embarrassed when it comes to genuine feelings.

That's where the similarities with women end. Sun has never tied sex with love; for him, it is simply a basic pleasure, originally intended for the reproduction of humans but now more tied in with having a good time. He has done his fair share of leading-on, however unintentional it may be, that usually culminates in sex and then him leaving the girl for another. He has left a string of broken hearts across Korea! Kind of. He does usually feel guilty for his treatment of their feelings, but Sun refuses to adhere to such a romantic notion. That is probably where his Y chromosome comes in.

thread manipulation — Sun Gyun has the ability to generate threads that are stronger than steel (similar to a spider's silk) in that respect, but only a few nanometers wide, practically invisible to the naked human eye. They are impervious to most things, though they may be severed by burning through them or using a magically-generated weapon. With his threads, Sun has the ability to do a number of things, from using it to swing from place to place, throwing items at a high speed, or even taking control of someone's body as a puppeteer.

accelerated healing — He is able to heal seemingly fatal wounds in about ten minutes. However, it does not affect his stamina; his healing only applies to flesh wounds, and things like lactic acid generation in his joints still occurs naturally, as well as sickness.

Ji Hwan Choi — Back in the day, Daddy Choi was a badass, motorbike-ridin', leather jacket-wearin' rebel. But now he's a math teacher. Oh, how times have changed. Daddy Choi is still pretty cool though, Sun Gyun can attest to this.
Soo Hyun Jeong — She's always been a rather practical lady. She's constantly on Sun's butt about his schooling. He adores her, but it is annoying. She is the one who likes to nag him about everything.
Nuna — Older sister by a year! She's usually pretty disgusted with his behavior and she hates it when he hooks up with her friends, but they get along pretty well for the most part. Nuna is really classy, but is secretly a huge slob at home! The fact she has been a bitch all her life and pushes Sun around a lot is one reason why he is incredibly against her dating his friends: for their sakes, not really hers.
Imo — Uh, yeah, his aunt happens to be Hyori Lee. He likes her because she acts like he's her favorite. She's more like a sister than an aunt, to be honest. But she is definitely his favorite imo and because of her, he gets hook-ups. He kind of doesn't tell people they're related and so close though, because he would like people to like him for him and not his aunt, kthx.
