∝ Character Information

back-story

The Hsieh family was not one found without. Through determination, and solid connections, Long Fei Hsieh built himself a small empire manufacturing weapons and various arms for governments in the world. While it was not something exactly respected among the norms of society, Long Fei became a man respected through fear and fear alone. He and his wife were blessed with two children, males who could carry on the reign Long Fei had started, taking his name to new levels and reaches.

Long Fei's eldest, Lu Tang, had other plans. Much less volatile than his younger sibling, Jiwu, Lu Tang took the family fortune into a new direction. Leaving behind the ties to any underground arms dealers and the like, Lu Tang publicized the Hsieh family and started a company concentrated on business dealings, concentrating on importing and exporting various goods. The money was good enough, but Jiwu had plans of his own. When Lu Tang was going through a bout of depression over the loss of his wife, Jiwu moved in and took over his elder brothers share of the corporation, buying him out and taking over where Jiwu left off.

Jiwu reopened ties with all his fathers old connections and once again started to manufacturer and handle illegal arms, even becoming a Vanguard in the Triads centered in Hong Kong, China, Jiwu took all turns back toward the path his father had begun. When he took a wife, a woman almost forced to marry him, he had three children with her. One of them was Chen Hsieu, the eldest child and first born son of the siblings. As such, he was taught the most vast knowledge of his three siblings, though his father assured all three children rightful times to learn the same.

Chen was always closest to his mother, a woman who, like his uncle Lu Tang, did not believe in the ways of Chen's father. Chen was versed in many things thanks to them, a strong appreciation for the beauty of life and cherishing love and the heart, where Chen's father did his best to form a boy of steel to take his place. As Chen grew older, however, all the strength his heart held did not portray itself properly to his fathers liking. His younger siblings began to fall more into line, taking steps ahead of Chen to be the successor to Jiwu's fortune.

When it was finally revealed to Chen, at 15, the underlying connections and life his father was leading, Chen was outraged. All the honor and discipline he had been taught and instilled with mattered little, because he felt his father's life and role tainted in the world. His siblings disagreed, and Chen was considered worthless to most of his family. At the mercy of his father he was only cast aside, basically written out of existence and sent on his way with the basic means of survival. His mother and uncle accompanied him, throwing away the comfort of their lifestyle to stay with the child they felt the most true and just.

When Chen was 17 he was discovered walking through the streets of his mothers native Taiwan, asked by recruitors for an agency if he would hold interest in becoming a model. Having little left to his name, Chen accepted their offer and legally became Kuan-Yin Shao, a young up and coming model. Quickly accepted and liked for his good looks, Kuan-Yin began acting soon after, staring in his first drama and gathering himself a small following and amount of respect for his skills. Using the stage name Mike He, he went on to star in several successful shows and even made appearances in some music videos for idol singers, all the while keeping up with his modeling. He left his past behind almost completely, keeping to himself whenever questions of it were asked.

When the Outbreak hit Kuan-Yin rushed to be with his mother and uncle, finding only his uncle at home and his mother long gone. He hasn't heard word from her since, assuming the worst of her outcome just so he could continue on in some way. He's been locked away in solitude, hardly seeing even his own uncle in the past few months, coping with all that has happened. Keeping true to himself, however, Kuan-Yin took back up his life and has begun to make himself into the man he was slowly becoming. There is little use in letting yourself waste away, after all.

personality

Kuan-Yin is someone who is rather contradictory to himself, always existing in two separate pieces instead of one flowing whole. He does his best to bring himself together, exposing a calm and composed exterior to most anyone he meets, while his heart is in a near constant battle. He believes in the flow of the world, everything existing as one whole, but sometimes finds it hard to locate his place in it all. Typical, of course, but something he comes down hard on himself for. Because of his upraising, mostly thanks to his father, Kaun-Yin finds it hard to forgive any wrongs he may do, most especially not knowing precisely what to do at every moment.

Kuan-Yin is remorseful for not being able to help his family, for not having been able to change what they were or were set to become. His devotion to them is as strong as all his emotions, his heart his only driving force in everything he does. He was once extremely set in his beliefs, an absolute in all that was, but with everything that has happened to him he's become less and less sure of all that is or can be. He tries, however, and moves on with the strength of all he is.

Among companions he's much more relaxed than he likes to let off, an awkward sense of humor and slow-to-the-draw way of being. He isn't out of touch with everything around him, just slower to catch on to some more basic facts of social interactions. He's protective and compassionate when it comes to those he's let into his life and heart, and loyalty is the largest aspect of anything he does.

∝ What He's Got

STEP DISKS → The ability to summon and control step disks which act as teleporting disks through both time and space. Kuan-Yin is able to move on the disks as he wishes, flying through the air without teleporting, and may carry others upon the disks as well. These disks are made of an un-Earthly form of metal, malleable only to Kuan-Yin and unbreakable by any means other than his own will. The disks become linked to Kuan-Yin and any passengers he wishes them to be once summoned, and should he be knocked off of one they will catch him or any passengers in an instant. The disks, when used as devices for flying, allow for a speed of Mach 10 without harming Kuan-Yin or the passengers upon them.

DISK MELDING → Kuan-Yin can melt down and meld these disks of unbreakable metal unto other objects or himself for short periods of time, making them indestructible so long as they are coated in the metal. He can also meld the disks into defensive walls around himself or objects, forming an unbreakable shield from outside forces.
DISK ABSORPTION → Kuan-Yin's disks are capable of absorbing, re-directing or simply trapping matter within them. They may absorb energy, or even living things, within them and destroy or hold them until another moment and time when Kuan-Yin chooses to release them. Any trapped energy can be re-directed back in any way he wishes, or completely dispersed and destroyed once within the board.

ELEMENTALIST → Kuan-Yin has gained a natural psionic connection with the Earth and all it's elements, an ability he's been able to harness and manipulate to a fine degree thanks to his understanding of the Wu Xing study of philosophy — each element merely a phase of the two cycles, one to generate each other and one to overcome each other. Kuan-Yin can generate, manipulate and disperse any natural element of the Earth — allowing him to manipulate his natural surroundings so long as he maintains a peaceful connection with it all. Kuan-Yin can, to a degree, effect man-made objects, but only by influencing the natural elements within each object. He can fly naturally, though tends to use his disks for such things, or even call upon the energies of the Earth to enhance his own abilities.

ELEMENTAL PHASE CASTING → Kuan-Yin can generating and manipulate any element of Earth — be it water, air, fire, earth, metal or even wood. These elements can be manipulate in any degree by him, an almost spiritual and mental connection with the elements allowing him such a thing. They act as extensions of himself, doing as he wills, and are under his complete control. He may effect elements already in existence, altering them or affecting their quantity as he wishes. He can generate as much of any element as he feels necessary, though he must maintain his own mental balance to keep them under his complete control.
CLIMATE AND SEASON ADAPTATION → Kuan-Yin can adapt his body to any temperature or surrounding on Earth, making himself capable of existing no matter the temperature, situation or climate. He can walk through flames, move through water with ease, and even exist in the middle of a snow-storm without feeling any difference eternally.
ENERGY PHASES → Kuan-Yin can manipulate various energies tied in with each element, absorbing and casting various forms of energies that may be used in different ways. Earth energies, for example, stabilize and heal others no matter the injury, while wood energies may bring about new abilities and means for others. He can use metal energies to negate others abilities, or fire energies to expand on his own natural abilities. He is capable of absorbing most energies into himself and re-directing them in some way, altering them into a new phase to his liking.
ELEMENTAL DEVELOPMENT → Kuan-Yin may develop the natural elements of the world around him, effecting live-stock and anything of the like. He can sprout and bloom various portions of the world, bring about a withering of any natural living thing, or put something into a dormant phase as he wishes. He can feel changes and effects within the Earth itself, though he is not negatively effected by them unless he is actively trying to alter them.
ELEMENTAL CREATURES → Kuan-Yin can generate various creatures with his elemental abilities, though the creatures do not need to be based off their own Heavenly Elemental bodies. Dragons made of fire, and birds made of water, are some of the things he may make, and they are completely solid though completely without will and thought. They act only under his own influence.

ABNORMAL METABOLISM → Kuan-Yin's body has developed an abnormal metabolic system within itself, something that has effected his physicality in various ways. At any given moment Kuan-Yin's body is at it's peak in every way, though when his metabolism kicks in he gains various other enhancements.

ENHANCED REFLEXES → When reacting to danger, Kuan-Yin's body develops superhuman reaction time, making him capable of observing and reacting to anything around him faster than most humans can even notice.
ENHANCED ENDURANCE → When reacting to harm, Kuan-Yin's body develops a form of superhuman durability, enhancing at the more signs of danger. It can range anywhere from allowing him to take the blunt force of an explosive, to making his body incapable of being pierced in any way.
ENHANCED SPEED → When reacting to certain situations, Kuan-Yin's body develops a superhuman level of speed, increasing as he needs to get through the situation. It varies from a speed quick enough to run across walls to a speed moving his body faster than the human eye can see.
ENHANCED STRENGTH → When reacting to certain situations, Kuan-Yin's body develops a superhuman level of strength. This can range anywhere from the basic just above peak human level allowing him to press about a ton of weight to letting him lift upwards of 15 tons of weight naturally.

∝ Relationships

family

Lu Tang Hsieh — (Uncle) Might as well be a father to him at this point, he teaches him how to be a decent and well-rounded human being.
Long Fei Hsieh — (Deceased) Kuan-Yin never knew much of his grandfather aside from the things he heard through both his uncle and father.
Jiwu Hsieh — (Deceased) Hasn't had contact with him in years, pretends to like it better that way. He's kind of an asshole. Also a high-ranking Triad member.
Yu Ming Hsieh — (Deceased) She was the real parent in his life, and always took care of him. Buried in Hong Kong, a funeral he was not allowed to attend.
Nianzu Hsieh — He kind of took over where Kuan-Yin left off as far as the family is concerned, and he holds a strong resentment for Kuan-Yin going against the family.
Qing Zi Hsieh — She and Kuan-Yin used to be close before he was thrown aside from the family, he regrets not knowing what has happened to her.

good friends

Joe — This is like his best friend, and one of the first people he met when he came to Taiwan. He's got his serious side like Kuan-Yin, but he also has his relaxed one that makes Kuan a bit easier to tolerate when Joe is around. He's a real guy friend and Kuan so knows he's not gay now.
Kingone — Worked with him multiple times through his career, and they get along decently enough. Kuan-Yin considers him trustworthy and likes to call him a friend. Plus, he helps him out with his acting a lot and gives him pointers on just about everything. Thinks he's much more suited to be a boy-bander than Kuan will ever be.
Rainie — Worked with her multiple times as well, and usually ends up having to be in an on-screen relationship with her. He's heard the rumors about them dating enough that it doesn't bother him much anymore. Still gets flustered, and might be a little scared of her. He has to try and act like her whenever he's forced to be humorous or anything of the sort. She's pretty much his best friend, at least his best female friend. While he might bother and insult her as much as he can he often feels he is the only person allowed to do that. He jumps to her defense in an instant and has no hesitation in fighting to defend her.
Destiny — He met her at Vanness and Vivian's Halloween party. She was... worth noting. Not all white people are evil and rude, what? He liked her enough to make conversation and even almost smiled. He hung out with her at a party in Tokyo and she's one of the few white people he likes now.
Tracy — Kuan met her back in his modeling only days, so they worked together on some underwear shoots. She was very attractive up until she went and started making him feel awkward. They got closer over the past year or so after talking more, and eventually they began sleeping together. While he's never really sure of what compels him to be with her, Kuan-Yin isn't exactly opposed to it at other times. After his mother died she showed a side of herself to him he wasn't expecting, which allowed him to develop more feelings for her than he's had before.
Ariel — Worked with Ariel before he closed himself off to his other co-stars, so he got to know her pretty well. She was actually one of his first friends in the industry. He takes to her almost like how he takes to Rainie, though he's glad to not get the same treatment from her that he does Rainie. She's always enjoyable to have to work with — on or off sets.

friends

Alan — Kuan doesn't know many musicians by nature, but he met Alan randomly through chance events. Because of his promise to Wei Lun he talked some to Alan, to at least get to know what all of that life was like. He found him enjoyable to speak with, and one of the few more recent people he's gotten to consider a friendly companion.
Will — Will is an interesting sort to Kuan, but he doesn't mind him. He's really good friends with Rainie, which gave him a higher amount of respect than most people Kuan can even begin to think of. Anyone who is kind to Rainie is someone worth mentioning and talking to.
Vic — Knew him through Wei Lun, and he was one of the last people that Kuan-Yin tried to befriend in the industry. When she passed away there was too much guilt for Kuan-Yin to try and continue a friendship with him, but he is a man he can respect.
Jolin — He's had a crush on her for years now. He only recently got to really speak with her one on one, though, and finds that she's a refreshing person to speak to. Especially after dealing with Rainie so much. His crush has.... subsided about as much as it's going to, so it doesn't inhibit his conversations. Much.
Wei Lun Hsu — He worked together with her in a drama before she passed away, and he had become pretty good friends with her through it. He was extremely saddened by her death, up to the point of blaming himself for a while. He grieved, however, and speaks very little of it now. Made a promise to her that he would become a singer, but because of the Outbreak he wasn't able to fulfill it.

passion-time

Destiny — Um. Yes. Showers are nice.
Tracy — Every man has his limits.

acquaintances

Natalie — My oh my. She beat him at track, but being behind that isn't really a bad thing. He holds no objections.
Katya — First place in track and a nice girl as well. It made it much easier to come in behind a kind person.

...others

Syun — When they were children she used to kick his ass in martial arts, and they were from families that weren't on very good terms. Eventually their families were at war with each other, though neither of them took part in their families dealings. He hasn't seen or spoken to her since he was a still in Hong Kong.
Sita Tsang — She was around at times when he was a child, but he doesn't remember much past her grace and presence. Someone from his far, far past.

dislike

It is worth noting that Kuan-Yin is very hesitant to speak to any white people after a few choice encounters. Mostly women — he'll address most of them as white devils.

— When he was in school he came in second place in a high jump competition through all off Taipei City.
