∝ Character Information

back-story

The bastard child of a star footballer, Haruki grew up with a strong sense of resentment instead of pride. When Haruki was born his father left his mother, and while he made occasional visits he never made Haruki's mother into an honest woman. In a society where being a single mother was still frowned upon that was more of a hardship than the woman was built to take. Like a lovebird separated she grew ill and, by the time Haruki was eight years of age she passed away.

His father, not a man equipped to take on a child (his image was far too important), sent his best friend to take the child on. And so, within a week of losing his mother and learning real hatred for his father, in the way that only a child can grow to hate an adult they do not understand, Haruki was moved out of his home and environment and friends. Moved from Kobe to the area that is now known as Fujikawaguchiko in the Yamanashi prefecture of Japan, Haruki held onto his resentment for his father and admiration for his mother.

As soon as Haruki got to the town he started turning his attention toward football, with a drive to surpass his father's success and prove his worth in some way. It was hard to do, at first, when Aaron (his guardian) managed to take up most of the boys time with seemingly useless tasks. But, Haruki was just as hard-headed as he was young and would take on all his chores and duties, his studies and extracurricular activities all with the brightest smile and shining ego. He began to shine brighter than ever his first year on the local football team, and after winning several tournaments and staying the star player of the area he got an opportunity to further himself.

Having taken both his boys soccer club and junior high school football clubs straight to the top, it wasn't hard for Haruki to get onto a team in high school—even after he moved to the main city of Kofu in the area. He excelled through school, with lackluster grades but exceptional and consistent performances on the field. He did so well, in fact, that he opted to leave high school and join a professional team at the age of sixteen. A member of the Bellmare Hiratsuka club just two years later he went to represent his country in the Olympics.

Though his team did not place with medals, he was the star performer in the match against America where he scored both goals for his team. After the Olympic games he moved to A.S. Roma. Just a year later, in 2001, he managed to help Japan reach the finals of the Confederations Cup where he placed as a top scorer in the tournament. He soon moved on to join the Parma F.C. for billions of lira. Already a star, Haruki was comfortable moving from place to place as long as he continued to see nothing but a flow of cash.

For a long while people weren't sure if he was more known for his ego or his talents, though by the time the 2002 World Cup came around he proved himself. Playing in every match in the cup, and even scoring a few goals despite his country not placing, Haruki made sure it was well known how worth his price he was. He started to fix his image and, after switching around teams and clubs a bit longer, began to become something like a shining image for Italy in his own native corner of the world. With the 2006 World Cup he even managed to snag a Man of the Match award for a match he tied.

By the time the outbreak came around he was comfortable on his position with AFC Fiorentina, with constant rumors of his name being put up for becoming a Knight of the Star of Italian Solidarity, Haruki was almost settled with himself. The idea of being a celebrity was more than welcome, and he'd already proven himself so much more than he ever saw of his father. It all was meant for naught, it seemed, as the world turned on it's axis and everything fell apart.

Repairing himself after the invasion of infected was an enlightening experience for Haruki. He had lived without much of anything, really, and making his way through Italy alone only made that fact all the more evident. By the time he'd made it to a safe Rome he wasn't even sure if it was worth trying to go back to the way things were anymore. It wasn't until the summer of 2010 that he started to find his boredom more than he could handle, and the itch to continue playing and doing what he'd come to love kicked in again.

This time, he hopes, he can keep on doing it correctly. Not for outshining his father, or for making the memory of his mother proud of his success. He might not really get all the things wrong with the way he lives his life, but he's certainly not as against the idea of doing things in another way. Maybe he isn't always right, and maybe he's starting to almost understand that. Almost.

personality

Equipped with a seemingly indelible kind of grin to him, Haruki isn't someone that is easily down. Even in his moments of introspection he manages to walk away cheery and filled with a certain spunk, something he is incredibly proud of. In his eyes an ego is not a problem, not when he has the talent and skills to back it up completely and totally. He's had troubles with being kind of arrogant, a sort of show-off and know-it-all who doesn't really know anything at all. But he's young (young enough, at least) and is on his way to learning. He's always figured he can just be forgiven his wrongs in time.

Haruki has always acted like a bit of a big-shot, even before he was one. Part of some mindset of "if you believe it, it will happen" that he likes to hold onto with a deathgrip. In essence, for an awfully long part of his life thus far, Haruki hasn't been much more than a brat. Mommy issues? He's got them. Angst over daddy? He's definitely got it. But, he knows how to put on a show and cover it up well enough. Mostly. He made sure, for a long time, to let his hatred for his father be his only guide. And while it might show signs of maturity that he's starting to try to let go of it, it is really just a start.

He is the most optimistic person you'll ever meet. Haruki always thinks that things are going to work out. He's standing alone against a hundred zombies at once? No problem, he'll figure something out. To him temporary happiness is still happiness, and he is a master at being able to find little moments of getting happiness that won't last. He's never really been a bad guy, just a bit uneducated and certainly not the most socially sensitive of people around. But, when he happens to notice that something he's done has hurt or bothered someone? He carries a tinge of guilt over it and tries his best to make up for what he's done. Much like a child, really.

The only things Haruki keeps to himself are the most personal of things—his past, or his deepest feelings about people. Everything else? Is free game. He's got a mouth on him that just won't stop sometimes, and he can out-talk you once he gets his opinions rolling on a matter. Just like a child always trying to prove himself, Haruki hasn't ever learned to stop and really realize that it isn't something he needs to do anymore. And, so, he does everything he sets out to do with an effort of 200% plus more.

∝ What He's Got

cryokinesis — The ability to control moisture and the heat within it to freeze it into superhard ice. He can form this ice into objects of his choosing, the only limitations on it being the ambient sources of moisture and temperature along with his own imagination. Haruki does have to project the ice from a close vicinity to himself, and his freezing works best if he has physical contact with the subject he is trying to freeze. From his person he can direct waves of cold to make ice, but he must be directly projecting a blast of freeze from his person to the point of interest. He can form slides, shields, and his personal favorite—swords. He can make the ice powerful enough to encase a blast of concussive force equal to an atomic bomb, and strong enough to cut through steel. His manipulation of moisture is so precise that he can freeze bloodflow in a body if close enough, and with enough practice can do it with just a thought and considerable distance between himself and the subject. With enough practice Haruki would be able to make hail the size of cars fall from the sky, and could instantly freeze up to a mile around himself with a thought reaching his full potential with the ability.

moisture connection — While manipulating ice and moisture Haruki can combine himself with it, either turning his physical body into a form of living ice or complete water. It is his body's natural reaction to the subzero temperatures, and way to salvage himself from it. This means that while manipulating ice and moisture he is virtually indestructible, as he can reform his physical body with the ambient moisture around—and, if pressed, can even remove the moisture from a living thing to reform himself. Haruki does not have to take on the appearance of ice or water, save for when he is reforming his body.
moisture conversions — Haruki can convert his own body, and that of those around him, into moisture molecules that he can transport them over great distances (sort of like teleporation). He doesn't use this to teleport much, however, since when he reforms he is without clothing (as he cannot turn inorganic structures into moisture) and has only ever used it to break a living body down into a puddle of water instead.

photokinesis — The ability to mentally generate, control, absorb and emit light from himself and locations around his person. He can absorb light from any means (artificial and otherwise), and can then store energy in himself to use in a variety of means. Haruki can even manipulate the light that exists around his person with his will alone. When projected from stored means, Haruki can release blasts, rays and beams of destructive light (bright blasts of blinding light and heat that carry concussive force comparable to thousands of pounds of TNT), and he can generate forcefields that resist all forms of damage and attacks (even providing interference from mental attacks or probing). Haruki can bend light to generate illusions or even make himself and others invisible, or create spaces of total darkness where he can still see and areas of blinding light to desensitize others.

stealing — Uniquely, Haruki can actually steal the light from objects or people. Doing so weakens it's structure, and so buildings would crumble and people would grow weaker and ill. He cannot kill an organic being with this, but he can leave them on the brink of death if he steals enough light away.
granting — Haruki can also grant light to subjects, granting a strong essence of life which can heal living creatures, or enhance natural structures to the point of being almost invulnerable to damage. This can increase the physical strength and durability of anyone the light touches this way, with the more light he pumps into them the stronger they become.
light immunity — Haruki cannot be blinded by light, and even has a sense of night vision which allows him to see in total darkness with glowing eyes. He can be injured by blasts of light from another person with the same ability, but he cannot be blinded, dazed or stunned by them or even natural lights.

chronokinesis — The ability to mentally control time itself. With this ability Haruki can travel through time, control the speed of an object in motion and movement, slow down the world around himself, or even speed himself up. He can accelerate or reverse the aging process in a subject, any he desires, and grant levels of immortality where a subject would simply cease to age. Haruki can effect not only living objects but inanimate objects, therefore being capable of breaking down any object before himself by aging it to the point of natural decay or reversing it's time to before it existed. He can tap into a manipulation of space with this ability, allowing him the access to teleportation but nothing else. Haruki's control over time is so fine that he could cause an object or person to experience a thousand years of living in one second while keeping their body from physically aging. The reaction of time to his commands is so fast that it can become visible to the naked eye—if Haruki was trying to reverse the impact of force against himself or something else he could accomplish it so quickly it would seem a forcefield appeared around what he was safekeeping. He can heal injuries and wounds sustained by reversing the time around the injury, and repair entire buildings and structures by reversing the personal time of the area. He can bring someone back from death up until a day after their passing—any longer and their consciousness and spirit has left them. Haruki can also effect the paths of trajectory through time that a subject may take, allowing him the ability to redirect the course a subject is on (like changing the direction bullets are flying in, etc). He can review events of past occurrence in given places, projecting them before himself for others viewing as well, and has the ability to call upon temporal duplicates of himself that allow him to know the future before it happens. When altering time Haruki chooses what is effected by this ability, making it so that he could remove himself or any chosen subjects from the flow of time and the flow of his abilities. The reach of his ability only extends as far as his eyes can see naturally.

stasis — By entering stats of stasis, Haruki is capable of inflecting massive damage to the world around him. With one gentle touch he can generate the same damage in a subject that a massive impact would. So, while he puts himself in stasis he can simply touch the arm of a person and shatter it in several places without even trying. When he puts other subjects into stasis they are moving at speeds quicker than imaginable, and can stay in it until the point of death or if they are in motion when he enacts the stasis upon them they will continue in motion until they crash into anything in their way.

probability field — The ability to subliminally and psionically initiate random acts that effect probability in his favor by making improbable (but not impossible) things occur within his line of sight. Through this Haruki gains good luck while his opponents gain some bad luck. The phenomena he generates can be anything from enemy equipment failure, to hitting the right switch with a stray shot to shut down a self-destruct mechanism. Haruki hasn't come anywhere near close to reaching the full potential of his abilities, and needs heavy training to find their full limitations.

This talent is mostly triggered unconsciously when he is in a stressful situation (like fighting). The effects of his ability then constantly emanate from his body without any conscious effort on his part. His powers do, however, have a need for his own participation—meaning: in order for his powers to work he has to engage in an action with which chance can be effected. With enough training he can consciously start to alter chance, and generate various outcomes to his liking, but for now it's only whatever would be most "lucky" for his in the moment.

If there were debris falling down toward his Haruki could not survive without moving to avoid it—though once in motion he would by no means be harmed at all, as his powers would take over and bring good luck. As a byproduct of his abilities his cerebral cortex emits currents of bio-electric pulses down his spine to instinctively guide his movements, which has since given his two augmentations to his person.

enhanced agility — While in movement, Haruki's agility is completely superhuman and he can accomplish near-impossible tasks, such as suddenly being capable of performing complex acrobatic maneuvers that he had only ever seen accomplished in films or circus acts beforehand. While not rushed by his ability or adrenalin Haruki maintains peak human agility which makes his as capable as the most fit human athlete.
enhanced reflexes — While in movement, Haruki's reflexes are also completely superhuman with which he can accomplish ridiculous tasks like dodging an array of bullets and projectiles sent his way by bending and moving perfectly in motion and timing. While not rushed by his ability Haruki's body maintains peak human reflexes which makes his react and move as quickly as humanly possible.

∝ Relationships

family

Momdeceased Died in his youth, but she left a big hole in his life. She was the only real family he's ever had a connection to.
Dad — He has no idea what's up with him, really. Tabloids stopped reporting on him after the Outbreak, so who knows. Haruki is unaware of it, but his father has since become a Bhayate Vrkā and occasionally can be found around Rome following Haruki.
Aaron — Lost touch with him soon after the Outbreak, but figures he's alive. Aaron is kind of a tough guy that way. He's an exceptional swordsman and fighter, even before the Outbreak, and the strong quiet type of guy. Very introspective which always bothered Haruki.

friend-things

Gaspare — An actor in Italy who happened to be a fan and so Haruki got to meet him after a match one day. He's a cool guy, and someone that Haruki can kind of relate to with the fame and ego and personality type ways. So, he's definitely a cool kind of guy!
Jolin — Met her after a match (that he won..!) and heard about her being a celebrity, which is cool. She seemed pretty shy but nice. She's a looker, too, which definitely added to his post-win high he had while talking to her.
Kasu — They met when they were younger back at the village Aaron raised him in and played some soccer together and stuff, though he was so much better than her it almost hurt him obviously~! They stayed in touch for a while with letters and the like, but he got a bit of a big head for a while and stopped replying. Bad Haru is bad.
Smiles — The day this guy is found not wearing a smile is the day the world ends, Haruki is sure of it. In fact, he'd be willing to bet solid money on that fact. And he is not a gambling kind of guy... mostly. Kazuya is cool company whenever you need a pick-me-up, which works well for Haruki since he's pretty much all energy.
Sora — Crazy fan guy that Haruki found in the locker room at a match in Seoul. After an initial spazz out Haruki calmed down enough to find out what the guy wanted, and even though he's weird he was nice. -ish. At least he wasn't trying to kill or rape him, right? Right!
Utada — They met together on a show back in Japan that he was invited onto. She's cool, though he doesn't really listen to much Japanese music anymore he got to sample some of it on the show. Her personality definitely isn't what he was expecting from the stuff he'd heard about her in preparation for the show, but in a cool way.
