► BACKGROUND

history

Vasundhara was born a fraternal twin, the elder of a pair of girls - the youngest of the three children of Manprasad and Bhavya Dhosanj. Manprasad was the eldest son of the esteemed Dhosanj family and so his girls were intended as marriage chips. The high-born Dhosanj family already had an heir and enough for the dowries of two girls that they could use to further cement their status.

As a child, it never seemed odd to Vasundhara that many of the villagers in their village (Dhosanj village, named for their principal family) would bow and scrape when she and her siblings passed until she started to grow a little older. She didn't really want for friends despite many of the kids of the area treating her formally as she had her elder brother (Roopindar, known to the twins as 'Roo' to annoy him) and her twin, Lajwanta. Lajwanta and Vasundhara were very close and people often whispered that perhaps there was truth in twins sharing telepathic thoughts. It was utter hokum, the twins could not do such a thing but they were so very attuned to each other that they could often predict what the other was going to say or do anyway.

As they became pre-teens, they started to grow away a little from their brother as he was a teenager now and considered to be more of a man. Roopindar spent less time with his sisters and so they grew even closer together. Roopindar grew into a little bit of a ladies' man and he enjoyed the company of many of the village girls before he went off to study in New Delhi to become a doctor.

"A respectable profession" their Father used to say and it was obvious their brother agreed. However, there was to be no "respectable profession" for the girls. They were homeschooled by tutors in the homely arts, in their lineage and in what was expected of them as wives in the future. Dhara resented this a lot as she felt it was unfair to restrict them for the simple fact of their gender - both twins were just as smart as their elder brother.

Roopindar finished his education and the family visited him for his graduation in New Delhi...just in time for the outbreak. Manprasad and Bhavya were killed in the attack and the three siblings hid away in Roo's home. As the infected closed in and they began to start saying their goodbyes to each other, the girls manifested. Before they knew what was happening, they had teleported themselves and their brother out of crippling fear to the outskirts of their own village.

The infected were not far behind and they grabbed what they could from their home before abandoning the village and counselling their villagers to leave as fast as they could for safe areas. Not knowing how or why they teleported, they set off on foot mainly, going through near starvation and great hardships before they crossed paths with some people who could help them. They were told that Rome was safe and so they made their way to port and crossed the water, disembarking in Italy. They sold some of their possessions to get somewhere to live and Roo set up a small clinic. To their shock, the girls now realized they could teleport at will and realized how they saved themselves in their panic.

Life continued for a few months with the girls staying with their brother and one day, a woman came into the clinic in a great deal of pain and when Dhara touched her, she healed the pain without the need for medical care. This has helped more money come in and given the girls a bit of independance from Roopindar - but it has also caused problems between the girls and their self-appointed guardian.

personality

Dhara can be the very-well brought up, high-born lady that she is supposed to be - when the occasion calls for it. If she doesn't have to put on airs for her families' sake, then she doesn't. She understands her family's standing in the local area back in India as being of the highest caste, but she sees no point in allowing that simple fact to control her destiny. Dhara has a bit of a mischievous streak in her, like her twin, this comes out most often in teasing their elder brother.

The twins both share the traits of being supportive and sympathetic. They do also come across as rather innocent and sheltered at first encounter, but after a while, things seem to happen around them and it is hard to shake the feeling that they somehow manipulated things to end their way. You'll likely never get proof of this, but they seem to be working the system well. Both girls do however have to contend with their brother and the simple fact of their gender making him their 'superior'. Their brother can be very demanding and overbearing towards them. This is the root of their sneaky mischief; they could not get away with any of it if he knew. They are expected to uphold their family honour and behave in a certain manner at all times. Dhara does love her brother very much, but there is somewhat of a resentment that he believes in the old-fashioned gender system and it does affect her relationships with men to a degree.

► POWERS

1 - Teleportation.
On her own, she can teleport wherever she wants. At first it caused her headaches but she has used this power so often now that she no longer experiences them at all. When she is with her twin, however, she and Lajwanta can teleport up to three people with them as the proximity to her twin amplifies the power for them both.
2- Healing
Dhara can heal minor injuries well without issue, however, major wounds (broken bones etc) cause her to become very tired when she heals them, even on herself. When she is with Lajwanta though, the two can heal with no detrimental side effects to themselves. Not only does it have no repurcussions on the healer, the person receiving the healing also seems to get slightly quicker results.

► RELATIONSHIPS

family

& Bhavya Dhosanj - mother deceased Dhara loved her mother very much and has not yet come to terms with the fact that she is dead because of the infected. Bhavya always encouraged them to do their best, but she saw no reason for them to want anything outside of marriage, children and home.
& Manprasad Dhosanj - father deceased She also loved her father and knew that his ways were fairly set and that no matter what the girls achieved, they would not be as good as sons. However, Manprasad was lenient with them as long as they did their work and he often showed them favours for instance when he went on business, he always thought to buy them a gift before he returned.
& Roopindar Dhosanj - brother, older Roopindar is a bit overbearing and can cast a bit of a shadow over Dhara sometimes. He knows what men can be like (being a bit of a player himself) and so is extra hard on his sisters to keep them away from men like himself. He is also very smart but resents the fact that his sisters have the ability to heal without using traditional medicine. He feels it is an insult to the work he did to get his degree.
& Lajwanta Dhosanj - sister, twin (younger) Twin, best friend, near-constant companion. Dhara and Lajwanta understand each other like no one else can and at times, they can be accused of isolating themselves a little from the world.
