background information

history

Rhodes is the third of four children, born to a rather cheerful (and plump) couple who owned a small bakery in the area. Being half-French, Rhodes always looked a little fairer and gentler than his dark-haired Greek peers, but he never minded much; he browned in the sun easily enough, and there was not much to complain about when you had such a happy family. Even if they were not the most well-off (no matter how successful the bakery was, it was small, family-run, and there were six mouths to feed every day), Rhodes was a happy child who, despite being small and all, found his place easily in the neighborhood. There was not much to dislike about him.

Because of his sensitive, friendly nature, Rhodes went out of his way to be nice to a pretty, blue-eyed girl at his school; his constant coaxing to Artemis Teresi resulted in the two becoming best friends for life. To Rhodes, Artemis was the pretty girl no one could touch - his feelings toward her, at that time, were like a fan and a movie star. Over time, he learned that there was more Artemis than met the eye, and his feelings became strictly platonic. They were always very different: tall, beautiful, frosty Artemis and Rhodes who was shorter, funnier, easier to get to know - but there was a feeling of completion he found with her that he didn't find with anyone else. It wasn't like finding a soulmate; it was like finding the other half of his soul.

He was never the most popular or the most shunted, but most people knew him and could say he was a nice kid. He tried his hand at sports, failing miserably because he just lacked proper hand-eye coordination; his art skills were beyond repair; academically, he was lazy and a procrastinator. But on a whim, Artemis once mentioned a play being put on at the school; and on a whim, Rhodes auditioned. He immediately garnered the title of "drama kid" and poured all his attentions into acting - he had a charisma most of his peers lacked on stage, and he could project his voice like nobody's business. He was, admittedly, glad he had finally found something he was good at.

The majority of Rhodes' history passed by without tragedy, and he chose to attend the University of Athens with a double-major in Greek and Drama. Rhodes' easy life did not even deter when the pulse hit; though a tad more cautious, his new powers aid him in dealing with life as it comes.

personality

Rhodes is just used to being dominated. It's not that he's a pushover; he just prefers to get along with people, and letting them have their way is easier than arguing over something silly anyways. He takes life as it is and doesn't see the point in trying to change circumstances; he'd rather work with what he has than wish for better scenarios. His view of the world is fairly easy to understand: "Go with the flow, and paddle your own canoe." He isn't one to stick his nose into other people's business; he'd rather just worry secretly on his own. Because of this, it can deeply affect his mood, and Rhodes has a tendency to snap at people when he's worried, but most of the time it's just evident by the furrowed brow and pursed lips he carries - he's always been very expressive, and he's no good at hiding his emotions.

He's always been something of a dreamer, especially since his small stature made it difficult for him to do any real type of athletic sport. Where Rhodes excelled was on stage - for his dimunitive size (especially compared to his best friend, Artemis), he projects quite a large presence. He becomes, from a rather laid-back individual, to a booming performer who can portray anything from a fallen emperor in Julius Caesar to a clever lawyer in Inherit the Wind. Inside that little body is a big personality just struggling to get out.

However, Rhodes can be lazy and overly sensitive, taking things to heart when they aren't meant to be and sulking in self-pity. His sensitivity also makes it difficult for him to take criticism of any sort, even constructive criticism; and it seems the blow is deepened when it comes from a stranger. Because of this, Rhodes is highly hesitant when it comes to performing at times; once on stage, he's fine, but making him try out for something is the difficult part. His sense of self-confidence fluctuates all over the place, from being completely full of himself to thinking he's lower than dirt. It's not hard to puncture his ego, but it takes a lot to bring it back up again.

powers

lycanthropy — A sort of werewolf power, except he doesn't have to wait for the full moon (though, it does happen then too, if he is not careful and in a particularly weak state of mind). If Rhodes should so choose, he will transform into a very hairy, wolf-human creature. In this state, Rhodes has enhanced strength, speed, sight, stamina, and smell. His nails also extend to create claws. When in this state, Rhodes mostly acts on instinct; he also loses the ability to speak (reduced to barks and howls) but understands well enough. It leaves him very tired.

olfactory identification — By sniffing something, Rhodes can track down a person up to a year after last touching the item. This differs from the enhanced senses his lupine transformation give him in that it is not something that can be turned off and holds a specific purpose in tracking and identifying.

vocal manipulation — Rhodes can manipulate his vocal chords to mimic any sound he should want. However, he must have heard the sound before, and he must be aware of what it was. For example, if Rhodes heard a dog bark but didn't know it was from a dog, he won't be able to replicate it when asked to repeat a dog bark. However, he may perform the sound of his own accord (though heaven alone knows what that sound is). He can also do this to imitate voices, to any degree he wants.

relationships

my big fat greek family

Nicholas Sotiropoulos — A cheery guy with a taste for small businesses. Before opening the bakery, he owned a grocery store, a repair shop, and a boutique. As a joke, Rhodes calls him Santa: a reference to his graying hair and rotund belly.
Clarice Sotiropoulou — A French pastry chef who came to work at Nicholas's bakery and ended up marrying him. She is the no-nonsense counterpart, with a huge maternal streak and a short temper. Rhodes hates it when she pinches him.
Helena Sotiropoulou — She was always the quiet one. Helena moved to France three years ago to pursue her career as a pastry chef, just like her mother. Rhodes finds her nagging annoying, but he's always been closest to her.

Kevin Leveseque — Helena's husband. He's American and from Kansas, of all places, but they met in Paris in a park. Rhodes likes him, for what it's worth, but he seems pretty boring.

Otis Sotiropoulos — Although initially he showed interest in cooking, Otis's interest wavered off and now he devotes his time to his job as a policeman on the streets of Athens. Rhodes and his older brother Otis never got along very well; they were always too different.
Mona Sotiropoulou — His pretty, popular sister currently careening down the path of sex, drugs, and rock & roll. They used to be fairly close, but now she seems more irritated with him than anything.

Costas Sotiropoulos — Younger brother to his dad, and thus, uncle!
Elena Sotiropoulou — Costas' wife. Kind of stick-in-the mud.
Marie Sotiropoulou — Cousin that was around Helena's age, died in outbreak. Deceased.
Michaela Sotiropoulou — Another cousin, younger than Rhodes. Lost an arm during the March attack.
Victoire Bonnet — Momma's older sister, so hello auntie. Used to be a model back in the day! Always tells you this.
Eugène Bonnet — Victoire's husband, significantly older. Runs a winery, makes some darn good champagne.
Serge Bonnet — Victoire and Eugène's son. Kind of whiny.
Inès Messier — Momma's younger sister. Died while fighting off infected. Deceased.

best friend

Artemis — He insists that she doesn't dominate him - but she does, really. Rhodes will bend over backwards to do anything for her. They've been best friends for years, and she is easily one of the most important people in his life. He used to think he was in love with her, but he got over it in time. Even if it seems they wouldn't get along, they manage to complete each other. She can be pretty mean to him sometimes, but Rhodes knows enough about Artemis's personality that he hardly takes it to heart. No matter the situation, he would do anything for her. He actually tends to think of her as a guy, and he can be caught off-guard when reminded she's a chick (not that he'd tell her this). No matter what the circumstance, Artemis will always come first for Rhodes, always.

girlfriend

Merielle — Rhodes has always had a soft spot for dancers. After Merielle came to Athens just to teach Rhodes how to ballroom dance (on a whim), he realized how his friend was a very attractive, fun-loving woman. It did not take very long for his own feelings to form, and after a few misunderstandings in London, a rather climatic meeting at the Acropolis cemented the fact that Merielle reciprocated his feelings. He might screw up every once in a while, but he's really got it bad for her. Calls her 'mon cher' because she is dear, fool.

friends

Alexia — The first thing Rhodes thought when he saw Alexia: pretty. But from there on, Rhodes discovered she had a good personality to go along with that beautiful face. He knows Alexia a bit more than he knows Etienne, but that's mostly because Rhodes always got along with girls better. He thinks of her as extremely caring and maybe a tad too cutesy for his liking. It's probably one reason he hadn't completely hit on her yet. NPC.
Apollo — By proxy, Rhodes became rather good friends with Artemis's twin, Apollo. They get along rather well, having compatible personalities, but Apollo has always tried to intimidate Rhodes with the idea that, under no circumstances, may he date his sister. Which is just fine by Rhodes, to be honest.
Etienne — Someone he also met through Artemis. Etienne is a rather cool guy, if a bit suspicious now that Rhodes has gotten to know him. They're still rather casual, but Rhodes feels he's a good man. He likes walking in circles around Etienne's head, when possible - and to be honest, it's not a very hard thing to do. NPC.
Mina — So maybe he isn't really a spy, but Mina was a great gal. He feels bad that even though he bragged her could save her, he didn't at all. He wished she had called him for help; he would've gotten on a plane, no matter the cost, right to Seoul. Deceased.
Vienna — A pretty nice girl he met on the network that seems to go along with everything he says - a sure-fire way to befriend Rhodes. He is impressed that she already knows what she wants to do with her life, and he can't wait for the day he can drag Merielle to go watch a ballet show. She's a little like Mona before Mona went down the wrong path.

others

Vivian — He realizes she's famous or something in Asia, but he's never been really exposed to that area. She has a nice singing voice, at the very least, and definitely a nice woman. Met her on the set of Les Misérables.
Kingone — Another acquaintance from Les Misérables, Kingone is a pretty chill guy and a fairly decent actor. They've had many deep, scintillating conversations about pants and their unique qualities.
Noemi — Rhodes met her on the set of Les Misérables. She's so pretty and talented, he couldn't help trying to be smooth and flirting with her during rehearsals. And she likes football! Does it get much better than this?
Reza — She seemed more entertaining than anything. He's promised her a visit to London, and he's planning on bringing Artemis too. NPC.

ex-girlfriend

Lydia Margaritis — While there have been others beside her, none of them mattered quite as much as she did. Rhodes met Lydia in a general education class his freshman year, and they started dating not too long after that. He was completely whipped when it came to what she wanted. However, they broke up shortly after the outbreak due to the fact she couldn't see herself marrying an actor. Rhodes was really, really bummed, and almost got too depressed over it until Artemis kicked some sense into him.
