character information
history
Hamlet was the first of three children born to Rhodes Sotiropoulos and his wife, Merielle. His father, so ecstatic with his arrival, took the opportunity to take advantage of his wife's sleepy state and named his son Ikike Hamlet before anyone could say otherwise. He pulled the same tricks with Hamlet's younger siblings, Plato and Eponine, and each time Merielle expressed regret that she had not intervened and given her children much better names - simple ones like Diane or something. But once it was written, it was done, and the hodge-podge group of Sotiropoulos children had to deal with the odd names as best they could.
Hamlet, as the eldest, was a bit of a lone wolf initially, shirking both his mother and father's sociable natures. While his father enjoyed a certain type of fame with his successful stage career, Hamlet found himself fighting against going to parties and instead preferring quiet places. Maybe because of his name, Hamlet carried a dislike for most stage plays, and he downright loathed Hamlet.
He was not artistically-inclined at all. While his mother painted and danced as a hobby, Hamlet could barely make out a stick figure. He left the artistic endeavors to his younger siblings. At ten, Hamlet was already showing himself to be a serious, somber little boy not unlike his namesake. His parents wondered where they possibly could have gone wrong. But he just knew there was something a bit different about him and his lack of want to socialize; as a result, he didn’t have the most friends growing up, preferring to keep a few close ones and keeping to himself the time left over.
At thirteen, however, finally found his niche in a most surprising place. It was there, with other people like him, that Hamlet began to loosen up and smile more. It was a cooking class for his elective, and when he discovered he both liked it and was fairly talented in the kitchen, Hamlet immediately knew what he was going to do. Once he graduated high school, Hamlet decided to not attend the university and instead turned his eye on Le Cordon Bleu, reestablished in the underground city, insisting on covering both pastry-making and traditional cooking.
Using his father's fame for pull, Hamlet was accepted into the school and he stayed with his aunt Helena, her husband Kevin, and their own child, Martin (who was six years older than Hamlet). After receiving his Grand Diplôme after a rather tumultuous year of study, Hamlet interned at Helena's patisserie. After two years of that, he moved back home to help out his aging grandparents in their own bakeshop - before he decided that it was time for him to spread his own wings.
However, some people in his family didn’t like the idea of him moving out, again, at the age of twenty-three. He was particularly close with his sister Eponine, and upon hearing he was leaving for good, Eponine decided to stage an interception. As the argument got more heated, both of them got more and more emotional, resulting in somebody losing control of their chronokinesis and thrusting both of them into the far, far future. Hamlet has adjusted to life in the future, setting up another restaurant, but he still sometimes thinks of the past.
Sometimes.
personality
Even though Hamlet would like to deny it, he is a little like his namesake. He is quiet, instrospective, and though he smiles more than he used to, he has always been a little more serious than one would expect from a member of the Sotiropoulos family. He is not so much a fighter and a do-er as he is a thinker, and he prefers to mull over things than just head out and go into the fray. He is especially hesitant when disclosing secrets to close friends, since he never can know how exactly they are going to react.
Like his father, he is a bit sensitive when it comes to his craft, and he tends to take criticism to heart rather than learning to distance himself from it. He can become a little obsessive with improving himself thereafter, and it's not unusual for Hamlet to work nonstop on a recipe until he (and his critics) are satisfied. His tendency to burn himself out in this manner can make him a little unreliable when it comes to cooking in his restaurant's kitchen, but his talent and taste is udeniable and makes him a valuable asset to his team.
Unlike his parents, he feels a certain kind of jaded outlook on life, feeling a bit as if he can see things that nobody else can. Some people call this 'pessimism' but Hamlet merely says that he is being realistic. He has a tendency to expect the worst out of a situation in an effort to prepare himself for disappointment (though he secretly hopes, as anyone would, that things will always work out right). His approach to life can be a little drab and depressing, but it has also lent Hamlet a certain gravitas when it comes to carrying himself. He just seems like he knows more.
When it comes to friends and people he cares about, Hamlet is not the type to really push people away, though his sometimes-cold nature can do that for him. He likes people, genuinely, and while he is not the type to really push himself to go to loud parties, he does like going out to coffee in small groups. He has a bit of a claustrophobic thing going on when it comes to larger pods of people, but keeping it around four or five lets him feel comfortable and close with everybody around. He does not make friends easily, but when he does, he makes them for life. There is very little that Hamlet would not do for his friends.

abilities
H20 Manipulation — Hamlet's got complete H2O manipulation, in any of its forms, and is also able to generate enough water, by himself, to fill several Olympic-sized swimming pools. He does this by synthesizing the molecules in the air to become water molecules, looping hydrogens and oxygens together like nobody's business. However, that's where his synthesizing abilities end and his water manipulation begins. Hamlet can drastically change the temperature of water with a single touch, thus able to change its state of matter from gas to liquid to solid. He can levitate huge amounts of water and ice, and is able to send them as projectiles with a keen accuracy he could have only learned from practice. Not only that, but he also is known to use hot, hot steam to burn his target - and in some cases, blind them. While he has no particularly shiny attacks or something, Hamlet's ability is powerful in its versatility and endless amount of options.
Chronokinesis — Although definitely not as controlled as his other power, Hamlet also has chronokinesis, or time manipulation, under his power. He can travel to any point in the time stream, either forwards or backwards, but he must have an exact moment in mind. Without that set moment, his time-skip is more likely to fail and go to any random point in history. Hamlet also can speed up time or slow it down for up to thirty minutes of his own personal perception.
relationships
family
Rhodes Sotiropoulos — Dad and a rather popular stage actor in what remains of the theatre scene. Unfortunately, Hamlet and Rhodes don't seem to get along very well, mostly because Rhodes is far less serious than Hamlet thinks appropriate for a man who has three kids and a wife. Nonetheless, he appreciates his dad for providing him with the upbringing he had and he misses him.
Merielle Sotiropoulos — His much more sane mother, though not by much. His mother is more instructive in his upbringing, and Hamlet can remember watching her dance around their house as the world was rebuilt. However, Hamlet feels he let his mother down for being the only one not into artistic pursuits, and his primary concern in getting back home is to take care of her.
Plato Sotiropoulos — Younger brother, a talented drummer. They're not as close as Hamlet and Eponine, and Plato has always struck out more on his own and hung out with the parents, but they get along okay.
Eponine Sotiropoulos — His younger sister. They tend to bicker as brothers and sisters are wont to do, but he loves her immensely and is fiercely protective of her, especially considering their current circumstances. When she badgers him for food, he gives it to her, and when he has trouble meeting women, she becomes unnecessarily (in his opinion) involved. It's a good relationship, altogether.
friends
Alexandra Hammond — Sometimes Alexandra stumbles into Hamlet's restaurant, and Hamlet has no choice but to listen to her air her grievances against her guild. Although most of what she says lays outside his perception and interests, they have a friendship where they can talk and things don't feel awkward. She's a good person, from what he knows.
Daniel Sying Chieu — Daniel occasionally drops by Hamlet's restaurant, sometimes with a date, sometimes not. Over time, his regularity has caused Hamlet to approach him, and they now have a pleasant friendship. The fact that Daniel is relatively level-headed and not as extreme as the majority of people that Hamlet seems to run into is something he appreciates immensely.
Kouji Amada — Not only are they neighbors, but Kouji comes to Hamlet's restaurant a sizable amount of times too! Hamlet has known Kouji since he first ended up in Tusas Anuire, and he is probably the closest friend he has here. Though not really into music, it's not unusual to see Hamley moseying around Kouji's music shop when he's off work. It's a good place to find him.
Angela Choi — As a fellow business owner, Hamlet had to check out her cafe when it opened, and it's another place he's come to frequent when he has the time and does not feel like cooking for himself. He particularly enjoys the open mic nights. Hamlet thinks Angela is a very nice, polite young woman (even if she is old, she definitely doesn't look it), and he thinks very well of her.
acquaintances
Kaitlin Garrett — He just met her on the community, but she seems pretty nice. Definitely on the friendly (and easy on the eyes! but that's merely an observation) side. Hamlet might speak to her again, if the mood strikes.
Summer Ok — A fellow food-lover! She drops by his restaurant a lot too, and as a result, they seem to be becoming friends as well (Hamlet likes to get to know his regulars). She's very energetic and her cheerfulness can be contagious, if a bit much at times.
Dong Yul Hak — He brings his dates around the restaurant as well. Hamlet hasn't seen him with the same girl more than a few times in a row, but hey, if the guy has got it, why resent him for it? They've spoken casually, and Hamlet has a good impression of him.
Hong Shi Yue — Originally, Joe was someone Hamlet hired to help out at the restaurant with a few odd jobs when first opening; now, he's a frequent visitor. He's a very quiet guy, so Hamlet hasn't talked to him extensively, but they've spoken a few times, and he has a fairly good first impression of the man.
random notes
- He's a dedicated carnivore, and personally, a big fan of the hamburger. No cheese, just meat. Mm.
- Hamlet is a fan of body art. It took him two years to finish his sleeve, and the chest tattoo is from when he was eighteen.
- One of his habits is running his hand through his hair. He does it particularly when he feels like he has nothing to say or he's at a loss of words.
- He really, really abhors his first name (Ikike) and it takes constant needling to get him to admit what it is.
- Hamlet has an adorable pet bunny. I-It's so sweet...
- Hamlet's last name was originally 'Sotiropoulos' but now that he lives in the future, he's changed it a little. Mostly because he doesn't like his dad.
l'autre pied

- It's a good place for a date or if you have the money to throw around.
